This recently published article by Florence Massena in The New Arab talks about the ever growing flock of startups and social entrepreneurs in Lebanon and their need for funding.

Several local and international accelerators and investors, interested in social outcomes, are helping fund and mentor young Lebanese startups.

Michelle Mouracade, Alfanar’s country director, believes that “Lebanese people have the entrepreneurial gene in their DNA and are incredibly creative and courageous,” but pointed out that “the survival of these businesses is even more precarious than usual due to the smaller purchasing power of consumers and the dramatic lack of post-seed funding”.

Alfanar is the first venture philanthropy organisation focused on the Arab region. It works to strengthen innovative social purpose organisations by providing them with financial support, management guidance, and technical expertise.
